The Seventh Annual Millsite On Ice Fishing Tournament is set to kick off on Jan. 13 and Jan. 14. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Castle Dale City Mayor Danny VanWagoner to discuss all the details.
This tournament has not only become a great event for local fishermen but for others within the state too. “When this turned into a two-day event it kind of blustered our tourism, our motels, our restaurants and it’s really helped out there. We have a youth category, so they’ve kind of split it up a little bit to make it as equal as possible and tons of people, tons of people,” said Mayor VanWagoner. On Jan. 13 it will be the team tournament and then on Jan. 14 it will be the individual and youth tournament.
Registration is currently taking place and you want to be sure to get signed up as soon as possible. “I wouldn’t wait, anything past Christmas with your registration. There are hoodies, and grab bags and things like that but it’s real easy to run out, if you think you’re just going to walk in the day of the event and register, you might be waiting for your stuff to be sent to you or things like that,” said Mayor VanWagoner. Interested fishermen can register online at https://www.millsiteonice.com/ the cost to participate is $50.00 per day or $85.00 for both days.
“There are two unique things about this ice fishing tournament, all the money, all the registration money, goes back into cash and prizes for the tournament. But also last year they started a fundraiser, and last year that fundraiser raised $6,000.00 and it was for Emery Caring for Kids, this year they have a new one. They’re giving back to Emery County in several different ways and giving back to the community,” stated Mayor VanWagoner. This year’s fundraiser will benefit the Emery County Domestic Violence Coalition.
