
The Spartan wrestling squad was on the road over the weekend to take part in the annual Tournament of Champions in Vernal. Schools from across the state, and schools from Colorado and Wyoming took part in the two day event. At the end of it all Emery claimed an eighth place finish.
Payson High School grabbed first place with Uintah in second. Juab, Wray and Meeker rounded out the top five schools.
Monty Christiansen at 106 pounds claimed a second place finish with a 3-1 record. Greg Suwyn earned a fourth place finish at 175 pounds going 3-2 and Easton Thornley in the 285 class also went 3-2 earning a fifth place finish.
The Spartans have just seven more meets before divisionals take place February 3-4 in Richfield. The All-Star Duals, an invitation only event will take place Tuesday, that will be followed up by a home meeting with Union on Wednesday.
This weekend will be another two day tournament, “The Rumble” which takes place in Herriman at Real Salt Lake Academy, over 40 teams are set to compete.
