
On Saturday the Lady Dinos jumped into postseason play when the Summit Academy Lady Bears came to Price for their second round meeting in the 3A State Basketball Championships. Carbon entered the playoffs with the No.4 spot in the RPI, earning them a first round bye. A big second half would propel the Lady Dinos to the quarterfinals in Cedar City, as they earned a 62-48 victory over Summit Academy.
Carbon finished the regular season with a 16-4 overall record and a 5-1 mark in Region 12 play. With their first win under their belt in the playoffs the Dinos will head to Cedar City this week to continue their road to the 3A Championship.
Summit Academy entered post-season play last Wednesday when they hosted Providence Hall taking a 41-18 win. The Bears finished the regular season with a 12-11 overall record which included a 5-3 region mark.
The contest on Saturday began with both teams playing each other pretty closely, as the Dinos and Bears would battle back-and-forth, but by the end of the second quarter the Lady Dinos would hold a slim 25-24 lead.
The third quarter would see Carbon start to pull away as they put 19 on the board while holding the Bears to 12, and then again in the fourth Carbon found more offense scoring 18 and earning the win that allowed them to move on in the playoffs.
For the Summit Academy Bears, Olivia Backus led all scorers with 24, Avery Backus put up 13 and Harissa Mehmedovic scored nine.
For the Dinos, it was Madi Orth putting up 18 and grabbing 12 rebounds in the win. Tatum Tanner put 15 points on the board grabbing four rebounds and Haley Garrish scored nine with seven boards. Amiah Timothy registered six assists in the game as well.
Up next for the Lady Dinos is a meeting with the No. 12 Delta Rabbits. Delta is coming off a big win last Saturday when they took down the No. 5 Juab Wasps. Delta finished the regular season with a 10-10 overall record and a 5-3 region mark.
The game will take place on the campus of Southern Utah University in Cedar City, and game time is set for Thursday at 9:10 pm. A Lady Dino win would move them into the quarter finals on Friday, where they would play at 4:10. A loss will drop them to the consolation bracket and they would take the floor on Friday at 11:10 a.m..
