The Dino soccer club traveled to Waterford on Tuesday for the final game of the regular season knowing if they took care of business they would enter post-season play with their best foot forward. The Dinos did just that, handing Waterford a 1-0 loss.
Carbon may have been scoreboard-watching to see the outcome of the Emery/Canyon View game, if Emery lost they would hand Carbon the Region 12 crown outright, a win, and the Dinos would share the title with the Spartans.
Coming out in the first half the Dinos scored the only goal of the match off the foot of Tyler Morris, and the single goal was all that the Dinos needed as they were able to shut out Waterford for the 1-0 win.
Morris had the lone goal off of the assist from Tacoma Smith. Dylan Curtis registered his fourth shut out of the season in the pipes.
Carbon finished the regular season with an 8-3 overall record holding a 6-2 region mark.
On Wednesday morning the Utah High School Activities Association released the final RPI rankings for 3A putting Carbon in the No. 5 spot.
Ogden claimed the top spot with Juan Diego landing in No. 2. Manti, Morgan, and Carbon rounded out the top five.
With their top-five finish, Carbon received a first-round bye and will face Canyon View on May 3 at 4 p.m. on the field at Carbon High School.
In the two meetings this season with Canyon View, the Dinos claimed a 2-0 victory in both.
