The Carbon High has been very busy with their annual Carbon Christmas activities this month by hosting several civic activities to gather donations such as monetary, toys or non-perishable items.
“Carbon Christmas is a month-long fundraiser we do for families in our community who can’t really afford Christmas or during the holiday season they just need some extra help. So, our goal is to provide Christmas for people and we do things like pay rent, help people with utility bills, just stuff like that. Just to do anything we can help out – so any donations from the community is useful,” said Hannah Powell, Student Council member.
Student Council members conducted an event at Wingers Restaurant on Monday, Dec. 12 by taking and serving orders, as well as busing tables to earn a portion of the evenings sales for their Carbon Christmas.
Another food establishment is also lending a hand to Student Council on Wednesday, Dec. 14. “If you go to KFC/A&W from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and you get a root beer float, the proceeds will go towards us,” stated Powell. KFC/A&W have always been a huge supporter of Carbon Christmas.
The Student Council is holding a huge celebration at the high school on Thursday, Dec. 15 where the community can enjoy dinner, games and visit with Santa. Powell explains further, “So on the 15th we have what’s called, Carbon Christmas Celebration. The whole community is invited from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. We’ll have entertainment, we’ll have food, Santa will be there and it’s all free but any donation is accepted.” The evening festivity is sure to be fun for the entire family.
Carbon Christmas organizers are also working with King Koal Theatres by offering Christmas movies for children and young adults. “Friday, we also have the kid’s movie at King Koal at 4:30 pm. They will have an option of two movies, where you can bring the family and watch some Christmas movies and then that same night we have a mid-night movie pointed towards high school students but anyone is welcomed to come out,” said Powell. All movies are Christmas themed for families to get into the holiday spirit.
The Student Council will finish off the week with the Stuff the Bus event on Saturday, Dec. 17 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in front of Walmart. This is a great opportunity for the community who have not been able to attend any of the week’s events to donate to Carbon Christmas, whether it’s in the form of cash, toys or non-perishable food items. Everything that the Carbon Christmas has gathered will go directly back into the community this Christmas season.
