Philip Delee Montoya finished his time on earth and passed away on May 1, 2023 at the age of 90 with his two daughters and son-in-law at his bedside.
He was born December 15, 1932 in Helper, UT, to Ursulo and Lucy Martinez Montoya.
Life growing up involved lots of time with friends, working odd jobs at a young age, and sports. After high school Delee entered the Army for two years where he received an honorable discharge. Upon his return he sought his education to become a school teacher at the junior high level, and soon became a school counselor.
Later in life he worked as a guidance counselor for the Job Corps. He also worked a part time job to supplement the life of an educator. He seemed to love work. Delee was known by so many people and was always stopped by people who shared a story about “when he was my counselor” or “when he taught me in school.”
He is survived by daughters, Roslyn (Doug), Sharon (Curt); daughter-in-law, Nancy; granddaughters, Ashlee (John), Aubrey (Antwain), Amanda, Erica (Jason), DaNeil, and Ashley (Robert); 10 great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Bradley, Reese, Olivia, Mya, Dylan, Aja, Sal, Gabriella, and Sophia; three great-great-grandchildren, Audio, Arrow, and Acelee; sisters, Merlene and Sherlene; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ursulo and Lucy Montoya; son, Joseph Delee; daughter, Lorri Ann; brothers, Ernie, Robert, and Marvin; grandson, Devin; and many dear friends.
He had two loves of his life – Saralyn Montoya, mother of his children, and later in life, Beverly Montoya.
Delee was a devout Catholic throughout his life. He had a deep love and devotion for God. He enjoyed time with his family and friends, especially his Sunday dinners. He had a witty sense of humor and always made people smile. We all laugh at his frugalness – seriously the definition of it.
The family would like to sincerely thank all the staff at Good Life Senior Living. We are humbled and feel so blessed that these beautiful people took care of our dad, they were kind and gentle, and so loving. THANKS to each of them.
