As the track and field season prepares to come to a close Carbon traveled to Cedar City to compete in the Region 12 Championships. After two days of competition, the Lady Dinos finished in the second spot with the boys landing in third.

Host school Canyon View grabbed the top spot for the boys, with Richfield landing in second place. Carbon claimed third and Emery and Grand made up the rest of the field.

Bradley Wood claimed the only first place finish on the Carbon boy’s side claiming first in the shot put, he would also claim third in the discus.

Traxton Jewkes claimed second place in the high jump, as well as a fourth place finish in the long jump behind Ethan Prettyman in third.

In other track events the 4 x 400 team of Garrett Black, Mason Vasquez, Braxton Ware and Easton Humes claimed second place for the Dinos, Humes would also claim a second place finish in the 400. Black earned third place in the 300, Ware would also claim a third place finish in the 1600 and Riley Palmer was third in the 110 hurdles.

Carbon also claimed two more top five finishes in the sprint relay as Vasquez, Humes, Ware, and Eric Holt  ran to a third place finish and Vasquez, Prettyman, Holt and Logan Palmer came in fourth in the 4 x 100.

Host Canyon View would claim the top finish on the girls side as well, with Carbon in second. Richfield, Emery and Grand rounded out the rest of the field.

Distance runs were big once again for the Lady Dinos with Rozlyn Stowe claim two first place finishes in the 1600, with a time of 5:08.83, followed by Lindsie Fausett in third and Sophia Taylor in fourth. Stowe also claimed first in the 800 turning in a time of 2:15.33, Beverly Lancaster finished in fourth. In the 3200, Fausett crossed the finish line in first with a time of 12:09.73, Ambree Jones finished in third and Taylor fourth.

The Dinos would also grab a first place finish in the sprint relay with the team of Kinlee Lewis, Gianna White, Mia Crompton and Stowe with a time of 4:21.36. Carbon would grab two more second place finishes in the 4 x 100 with Lewis, Crompton, Jordan Shorts and Mclain Lowe, and then in the 4 x 200 with the team of White, Taylor, Stowe and Emma Bowman.

In other individual events Crompton claimed a second place finish in the 100 and another in the 200 and Lewis grabbed a third place finish in the 100 hurdles and a fifth in the 300 hurdles. White would also claim fifth in the 400.

In field events, Haley Garrish earned a second place finish in the discus, along with a third place finish in the shot put, Laura Sooman finished fourth in the shot put as well. Emma Parker took third place in the long jump followed by Shorts in fourth. In the javelin Anna Hanson finished the day in third followed Rebecca Swasey in fourth, and Emily Dufour finished fifth in the high jump.

Carbon will head back to the track May 19-20, in Provo for the State Track Championships at Brigham Young University.
