Price City would like to remind citizens of the Memorial Day graveyard decorating and cleaning guidelines. Community members who wish to start decorating for the Memorial Day holiday may start to do so beginning May 22. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Grounds Manager, Robbie Matkin to discuss details.
“The decorations can be placed seven days before Memorial Day which is Monday the 22nd and seven days after Monday the 5th of June. The cleanup will begin Monday the 12th of June, all decorations left will be cleaned and disposed of so make sure you grab everything you want,” said Matkin. This guideline goes for both the Cliffview and Price City cemeteries.
To help navigate the traffic at the Price City Cemetery there will be some gate closures taking place beginning Saturday, May 27 at 5:00 am. There will be Cemetery Staff available at the cemetery that can offer assistance when needed. “So we have side-by-sides, they’re just utility side-by-sides, and we can actually carry one person safely but we’re more than happy to carry your flowers and etc. to the grave in the back,” said Matkin. The gates will remain closed/locked throughout the Memorial Day weekend holiday. Cliffview Cemetery will have no gate closures.
If you have a hard time locating a loved one’s grave you can locate them on the map at each of the cemeteries. “So at the Price City Cemetery we have a kiosk at the building where the restrooms will be and the restrooms will be open. There will be somebody there to help you go through the maps and the journal to find out what section and everything, so we’ll be happy to help you there. In Cliffview Cemetery, up by the bathrooms, we actually have a kiosk and some maps available there now as well,” said Matkin.
Another important date to remember is cleanup day when the city comes in and begins their cleanup work which is scheduled to take place first thing in the morning on June 12. All live flowers and decorations left on graves, including Shepherd’s hooks and solar lights will be discarded. City officials urge citizens to remove all decorations prior to the clean-up date to avoid any misunderstandings.
