The Emery Lady Spartans managed to overcome a hefty first half deficit but could not keep pace late in an eventual 6-3 loss to the Beaver Beavers Tuesday afternoon in the regular season opener.

Plagued by a slow start in the first half, the Lady Spartans entered the break trailing 3-0. The momentum of the game flipped heavily in Emery’s favor as Megan Silson scored three straight goals to tie the contest midway through the second.

Despite the solid response, Emery was unable to take the lead and Beaver found the back of the net three more times to take a commanding lead and the eventual win.

The majority of Beaver’s offensive production game from Abbi Cox, who scored four goals. Alina Lurth complimented the dominating performance with two goals of her own.

Dacelyn Minchey, Purity Mason and Madi Bunnell all recorded an assist for Emery as Stilson registered the hat trick.

With the season opener now in the books, Emery will shift its focus to the home opener, which takes place Thursday against Millard. Thursday’s tilt marks the first of a four game homestand that will span through August 22.
