The Price Boys & Girl Club is excited to start their program off for another school year beginning on Monday, August 21. Director, Quakee Tabone sat down with Castle Country Radio to discuss all the details about their program.
“So on Monday we open at 12:30 pm and then we close at 6:30 pm. Then the rest of the week we start at 3:00 pm and then close at 6:30 pm. That’s really inline with the schools. The school buses bring them and drop them off to us. We do Pinnacle pick-ups so they get here and we get started,” said Tabone. This year’s fee for the after-school program is $20.00 per child, it covers the entire school year and is payable by cash only.
New this year, the club has decided to set a theme for the month and will host different activities/events built around that theme. The August theme is Back to School and will just be a couple of weeks of getting into the groove of things, then in September, the theme is Hispanic Heritage Month. “Last year we kind of did a test run with what we call Tracks with our activities. We focus on one program or one thing for eight sessions, it really kind of gives the kids a chance to explore other opportunities and get to know that activity. Now fine tuning that Track process we’re adding in some theme to it. So September is going to be all about Hispanic and Latin Heritage and we’re really excited to get some things introduced to the kids that they might not know about,” explained Tabone. The theme activities/events are a great way to share different ideas/topics with the students.
Of course, the most important thing at the Price Boys & Girl Club is getting homework completed before all the fun starts. “We’re really excited to kickstart, very first thing of the day, is Power Hour. They come in, they get extra tutoring if they need help, and reading time if they need to do their 30-minute reading for the day. They get to do their homework and it really helps them to get going and to make sure that its done. Then when they get home they have family time, they don’t have to worry about doing their homework, they don’t have to worry about needing help from studying because they have it done,” said Tabone. The club wants its students to be successful when it comes to their academics.
New this year at the Price Boys & Girls Club is a Child Nutritionist has been hired to feed the children nutritious snacks after school. “She is awesome, it’s going to be great. She has taking on the charge of doing all the shopping, planning the menus, and really just making sure that the kids are getting that healthy nutrition. They have that right before their Power Hour, so they come in, get a healthy snack, and then their brains are ready to go and refreshed so they can get their homework done and then we play all day,” stated Tabone.
