In a nationally ranked matchup on Saturday, the 15th ranked Utah State Eastern men’s soccer team faced conference foe No. 2 Salt Lake Community College. Despite a valiant effort from the Eagles, the Bruins managed to secure a 1-0 victory in the regular season finale for both squads.
The Bruin’s offensive pressure during the game paid off in the 70th minute when Sawyer Heaton netted the only goal of the match, with an assist from Lewis Duncan. The Eagle’s defense held strong for most of the game, with goalkeeper Mathias Del Lago making several crucial saves to keep his team in the contest during his 90 minutes of play.
USU Eastern showed several moments of strength with seven shots during the match, however, they were unable to find the back of the net. Aiden McMullin, who managed three shots on target, was the standout performer for the Eagles.
USU Eastern enters post season play following a remarkable season and remains in the the #2 spot in Scenic West standings. They will now prepare for the SWAC Region 18 Tournament to be held October 26-28 at host Salt Lake Community College in Taylorsville, Utah.
