The 2023 Emery Lady Spartan volleyball team are your new 3A State Champions. The Spartans earned the title by beating the reigning title holders the Morgan Trojans, in a fashion worthy of a championship game, taking five sets coming away with the 3-2 match win and State Championship bragging rights for the next year.

Emery entered the tournament the No. 1 seed compiling a regular season record of 25-4 overall and an 11-3 Region 12 mark. The Spartans started out the year on a 14 game win streak, making it all the way to the middle of September before losing their first match to Canyon View, but only lost three more matches before the end of the regular season. They also closed out the year winning nine in a row, including tournament play.

Morgan entered the playoffs with the No. 2  spot in the RPI compiling a 22-6 overall mark and a perfect 10-0 in region play.  Morgan opened up the season losing back-to-back contest but then would go on a seven game tear.

In a championship game that proved the RPI works, it was No. 1 vs. No.2 when things got underway and Emery came out in the opening set to take a 25-20 win. The whole match would be played with neither team really coming out as more dominant than the other as Morgan grabbed the second set 25-21.

Set three would see the Lady Spartans come out swinging taking a 25-22 win, but Morgan came right back in set four, taking the 25-22 win tying everything up at two sets a piece.

Going into the fifth and final set the two teams squared off in an epic battle of back-and-forth volleyball, as both Emery and Morgan were not willing to budge and give in. Finally the Lady Spartans broke the stalemate taking the 15-12 set win and sending the Morgan Trojans home.

This is the second State Championship in volleyball for the Lady Spartans, the only other one came back in 1996.

Congratulations to the 2022-2023 Emery Lady Spartans, 3A State Champions!
