At 4:20 a.m., on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, Ray Sorensen gained his wings.
Ray’s life started on December 3, 1950 where he was born to Henry Holger and Emilie Jensen Sorensen in Ogden, Utah. Ray’s parents and two older sisters, Lissa and Ruth, immigrated to Ogden from Denmark. His mother was actually pregnant with him when they immigrated. Ray was the baby and everyone knew it. To the end, it was ALWAYS his way!
Ray married Janet Westenscow in 1972. Together they had 3 children; Shane, Andrea and Tara; they later divorced.
Ray was in law enforcement. He loved it and he was damn good at it. During Ray’s career, he worked with Sweetwater County Sheriff’s office in Green River, Wyoming, Wendover, Utah, Utah Department of Corrections, and Ogden City. Ray did several notable things in this field. He helped find someone, solved many burglaries and robberies, and even helped solve a murder!! His sergeant said this about Ray, “I have found his knowledge and understanding to be far ahead of the average law enforcement officer.” He actually met Jeanette on a call. Ray married Jeanette Brinkerhoff in 1977. Two years later Dusty was born. Ray had three years with him before Corey was born in 1982. Aaron was born two years later followed by Neesha in 1986. Their baby, Cole B, followed in 1989. They later divorced.
Ray met Gina Dabney in 1991. Together they had two sons. Henry Ray was their first born. Four years later, Ray’s baby boy Daylee Jake was born. Ray and Gina divorced in 2003. Ray married Korine Kay on July 28, 2005. Kori brought three children into this union; Linsie, Kassie and Alex. Ray had a special love for Kori and never fully recovered after her death in 2007.
Ray loved watching WWE and Ridiculousness. He loved Dr. Pepper and Pineapple Fanta! He loved listening to Pink Floyd. He loved basketball, playing it and watching it. He actually played in 3 on 3 tournaments with his team, The Scumbags!! He loved baseball and had the chance to attend and play at the California Angles training camp.
Ray is survived by his sister, Lissa; children, Shane Sorensen (Emilie, Maren and Ann), Andrea Bremser (Kaia, Kolt, Karson and Kayden), Tara (Tavia, Rylan, Hudson and Olive), Corey & Natille Sorensen (Corey, Carter and Chaz), Aaron & Brindie Sorensen (Quintin, Kayson, Beckham and Ava), Neesha & Alex Christman (Drayden, Maci, Kade and Baby Girl), Cole & Misty (Jesse, Emily, Riley, Autumn and Isiah), Sarah and Brayden Mortensen (Aaliyah, Bregan, Calum and Dexlyn), Henry & Lexi Sorensen (Kai, Bentley, Heavenly and Armani), and Daylee and Delfina Sorensen (Zoe, Zion, Zaiden and Zara). He is also survived by many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Dusty Ray; sister, Ruth Hyde; grandson, Knixon Sorensen; wife, Kori; and special friend, Stephanie.
