Dennis Ray Marshall, age 68, a beloved resident of Price, Utah, passed away on November 4, 2023, after bravely fighting a battle with stage 4 metastatic renal carcinoma.

Dennis was born right here in Price on March 17, 1955, to the late Nolan W. and Olive Genevie Bowden Marshall. He cherished his upbringing in Carbon County, graduating from Carbon High and continuing his education at the College of Eastern Utah. Like so many, Dennis had a strong wanderlust, and he, along with his brother, embarked on a journey across the country, letting his natural talents lead the way. Over the years, he tried his hand at a variety of jobs and passions, including construction, tech, television repair, handmade crafts, woodworking, and pottery, but none held a more special place in his heart than music.

Dennis was astonishingly gifted; he could pick up nearly any musical instrument and learn to play it beautifully, entirely self-taught and by ear. This talent led him to become part of the bands, “Velvet Hammer” and later “Flax.” He had a unique ability to teach music in a way that no one else could, but he would candidly ‘cease services’ if he detected someone was there due to their parents’ insistence rather than their own desire to learn.

After many years of exploring and living life to the fullest, Dennis embarked on a quest to find the greatest love of his life, and fate led him back to Price. He walked into the Arctic Circle Restaurant, where his eyes met Cynthia Cay Anderson. They became inseparable and were married shortly after. They would have celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2025. The only love that began to compare to his love for Cindy was the love he had for his children. He passed on his skills to his kids and grandkids, endearingly referring to their shared addiction to hobbies as “a gift and a curse.” Dennis and Cindy put their skills to work and, during the summers, bravely traveled to festivals and fairs, selling their incredible handmade crafts with all six kids in tow. Dennis also dedicated over a decade of his life working as a scrub technician at Castleview Hospital.

Dennis was always a lover of the outdoors, barefoot and rarely seen wearing anything other than shorts, he had a deep connection with the nature around him and enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, ATV rides, and hiking the beautiful scenery in the Carbon Corridor. A prankster, movie buff, and Mr. Fix-It, Dennis kept everyone on their toes and shared a wealth of knowledge. When asked about his life, Dennis would say that his greatest accomplishment was his family.

Dennis was welcomed home by those who’ve gone before him, including his parents, all four siblings, James Marshall, Rea Patterson, Verna Marshall, and David and Patsy Place, as well as his youngest son, Jacob Ryan Marshall. On this earthly plane, he is dearly missed each day by his wife Cindy, his children – Jeremy and Tracy Marshall, Joshua Marshall, Nathan and Sabrina Ottley-Marshall, Jason and Megan Marshall, and Brady and Stephanie Montgomery, as well as 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In true Dennis fashion, a Celebration of Life will be held on November 19, 2023, 3:00 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home, (233 E. Main St. Price, Utah 84501) where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Livestream footage can be seen at https://www.mitchellfuneralhome.net/obituary/dennis-marshall.
