Many folks in the area will be headed out to start Christmas shopping this weekend which is a great thing for small businesses in the area. Castle Country Radio caught up with Carbon County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Barbie Haeck to talk about Small Business Saturday.

“American Express started Small Business Saturday in 2010. So it has been going on for this will be 13 years, and according to American Express in 2022 $17.9 billion was spent on Small Business Saturday,” explained Haeck. Small Business Saturday is always offered every November between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Those small businesses along Main Street fit the category of a small business. They are the businesses that help sponsor community events throughout the year whether that be school functions or sporting teams. So Small Business Saturday is a way for the community to give back to these businesses. “Not only are you more likely to find a unique gift for that person, but you’re also supporting someone that lives right here in our community,” said Haeck. Supporting small businesses, especially in our area helps the local economy.

Most businesses along Main Street should be open regular business hours, take this time to stroll along the street and get into the Christmas spirit. The goal for consumers is to help small businesses thrive during the holidays.
