The Lady Spartan basketball team took their unbeaten record on the road to Vernal to take part in the Shannon Johnson Classic. In the opening game Emery faced the host school Uintah, a team from the 4A ranks. The Spartans took charge early and never looked back taking the 66-44 win on Thursday night.

Emery jumped out in the first quarter getting it going early outscoring the Utes 17-12. Coming out in the second, the Lady Spartans kept the hammer down, holding the Utes to just six points and pushing their halftime lead to 36-18.

In the second half, Emery would keep it up in the third pouring on the offense scoring another 18 in the quarter. The fourth was the only period the Spartans were outscored by Uintah, but it didn’t really matter and Emery went on to take the 66-44 win.

Katelyn Nielson put up 15 points, pulling down seven boards. Kenadie Maughn added 11 grabbing nine boards and Aliya Lester dropped 10 points and grabbed five steals.

Emery will close out the weekend taking on Fruita Monument on Friday night at 5 p.m., and then will close out the weekend by facing Wasatch on Saturday morning at 11 a.m..
