The Carbon Dinos traveled to the Viewmont Invitational, competing against 20 schools over the weekend.

With seven wrestlers competing at the varsity level, the Dinos wracked up 49 points, placing 13th in the field of 21. Brax Tapia led the way with a third-place finish, securing 20.5 points in the 132-pound class.

Tapia suffered a loss by decision to Dawson Auger of Northridge in the second round. From that point on he was unstoppable, winning five consecutive matches, including a 13-8 decision over Corner Canyon’s Karl Ledbetter to take home third place.

Trevor Jones and Preston Martinez also gave the Dinos a boost in the overall team category, scoring six and nine points, respectively. Carbon claimed 12 victories as a team during the tournament.

The Dinos will now shift focus to two meets this week ahead of the Christmas break. Up next is a meeting with Grantsville on Tuesday, followed by a road trip to North Sanpete on Wednesday.
