The Emery Spartans participated in the final wrestling dual ahead of Christmas break, traveling to meet the Richfield Wildcats Tuesday night.
Despite being forced to forfeit two weight classes, the Spartans still managed to grab the overall team win 46-36. Helping the cause was a stretch of five wins between 120 and 144 pounds.
“We had some really good wrestling and we had to battle,” said head coach Kirk Christiansen. “We got wins in places where I was expecting some really good matches. We really hammered down and competed well, so I was really pleased with the boy’s performance.”
With Tuesday’s dual now complete, the Spartans will prepare for the lengthy pause due to the Christmas moratorium. The next dual will take place on Thursday, Jan. 4 on the road against North Sevier. The following day the team will compete at the Tournament of Champions in Vernal.
