It’s time for another Huntington City update with Mayor Leonard Norton who took time to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio to discuss 2023 completed city projects, 2024 projects and winter weather clean-up.

The Christmas holiday has passed and many residents enjoyed their holiday this year. “We got through the holiday season, got everything decorated, and everybody enjoyed our holiday decorations. We had a good city Christmas party for everybody, we hope that everybody enjoyed it, we put out some good food to them and everything is going pretty well right now,” said Mayor Norton. Each Christmas the city hosts a city-wide Christmas party where everyone in the community is invited to spend time with friends and neighbors.

There were lots of road projects that took place this year and a lot of citizens were pleased with the outcome. “You got the east side of Center Street we paved and pretty nice layer down and try to make it a little smoother. We got our 5th South project paved, and curb and gutter, sidewalk all put in, that project is done all the way to 4th West. Those were are two main projects. We got a little work done down at the Rodeo Grounds completed, and overall, it turned out to be a real good year for us,” stated Mayor Norton. He appreciates the patience shown by residents during both of these road projects.

As for enjoying a new year the city already has their 2024 to do list started, as Mayor Norton explains, “We’re going to redo a main water line coming down into town, get rid of some old pipe, get some new pipe – make it a little more dependable for us. We got a few curb and gutter projects we’re going to do. So you know just clean some things up and put some new lights out at our Rodeo Grounds – make that a little more attractive, maybe draw a few more people out there to use that piece of property for us.” This would allow residents to use the facility during the evening hours.

Although the Castle Country area didn’t have a white Christmas, we will eventually get snow and with that comes city ordinances that residents need to follow. “The citizens, if it does snow, to make sure your cars are off the road and trailers and such so we can get the plows in, and get them all plowed and cleaned up for everybody. That’s one of our wishes that we can do and hopefully everybody does it, so we can get it done,” said Mayor Norton. He finished by wishing all residents in Huntington City a Happy & Safe New Year’s holiday.
