The Emery Spartans traveled to Cedar City to face the Canyon View Falcons on Friday night. After overcoming the Falcons first quarter quarter-scoring barrage,  Emery settled in and handed Canyon View their eighth loss this season 63-38.

The Spartans had a little hiccup at the beginning of January losing three in a row, but have gone 6-1 since then, logging a pair of wins over last season’s defending champion Manti.

Canyon View came out in the first quarter dropping 17 points and holding the Spartans to 14,  but then Emery turned up the defensive intensity starting in the second, holding the Falcons to single digits allowing eight, and taking a 28-25 lead at halftime.

In the second half, The Spartans shut down the Falcons offensively, holding them to 13 points total, and continued to push through the final quarters seemingly scoring at will and closing the door on Canyon View with the 63-38 win.

Creek Sharp led the Spartans with 14 while Wade Stilson scored 13 and Luke Justice ended the contest with 12.

Emery sits at 16-5 overall and carries an 8-4 record in region play. With a pair of games left to go the RPI is removed and the final one will be released on February 10 with the opening round beginning at home sites on the 14th.

The Spartans will be on the road in Price on Wednesday to face the Carbon Dinos (8-12, 4-8)
