
Grant Belliston Howell, age 89, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024 in Price, Utah, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Nephi, Utah to Tharol and Arzella Belliston Howell on December 29, 1934. Grant’s mother died when he was three years old. His grandparents and many loving aunts and uncles helped raise him and his brother Richard.
Grant married the love of his life, Garna Gay Sillitoe, on September 7, 1954. Together they raised five children, which includes three daughters and two sons. At 60 years of age, they started raising a great-grandson which they later adopted. They spent 69 wonderful years together.
Grant started working for the Utah Highway Patrol at the age of 18. He retired from the patrol after 25 years and then went to work at Valley Camp underground as a coal miner until full retirement. Grant worked many other side jobs through the years to provide for his family.
He was a very active member of the UMWA, both on a local and national basis, he served as a local officer for local 6788 up until this past November at the age of 88. He was very active in the Elks where he held all offices.
He had many passions in life, which included hunting and fishing with his family, going to the Senior Citizen Center daily to visit and socialize with the people, but the one he loved most was doting over his kids and grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Gay; children, Gaylene, Carolyn (Kimball), Terry (Kathy), Brent (Patricia), Brenda (Lee), Christopher (Cassie); brothers, Richard (Marie), Ray Carl (Shirley), Steven (Ann); special cousins, Lawana Bateman, Judy Ellertson; 19 grandkids, 32 great-grandkids, and 6 great-great-grandkids.
Funeral service, Saturday, February 17, 2024, 2:00 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Mt. View Cemetery in Helper.
