It’s time to sit down with Emery County Commissioner Jordan Leonard who was happy to report on the last commission meeting and highlight the Emery Sterling Scholars. Castle Country Radio has the opportunity every other week to speak with the commissioner to keep citizens informed on the latest news and events.

There was a big crowd that gathered at the last Commission Meeting as word got out that the flooring at the Recreation Center would be redone. “Yea, it was a packed house, we had a lot of Pickleball enthusiasts that came to Commission Meeting. We’re really excited that we have a Rec Board, an Emery County Rec Board that’s forward thinking, and pro-active. They needed money to purchase the floor and we wanted to make sure that there were Pickleball courts on there because its really popular now here in Emery County,” stated Commissioner Leonard. Hopefully, the new flooring will accommodate all the needs of sports enthusiasts.

At this year’s legislative session, it was announced that the state would be purchasing the San Rafael Research Center. “They’re looking to purchase the research center and help it grow. I feel like as a research center it’s nice to have bigger partners like the state, universities to help manage that facility. It was a lot of weight on the commissioners, we’re really excited for those that pushed it throughout the state and all the partners that are looking to help us,” said Commissioner Leonard.  Emery County looks to establish a great working relationship with the research center as they want to see it grow and succeed.

With every radio interview with Commissioner Leonard, he always takes time to highlight a department within the county for a job well done. This time he wanted to spotlight the Emery High School Sterling Scholars who recently competed at their annual competition. “The Sterling Scholars competed this week. We had a few that won and a few runners-up, but all of the Sterling Scholars that competed, you know the school is doing a good job preparing these kids for the future. Just wanted to give them a shout out as the Sterling Scholars for Emery County,” said Leonard.

The Emery County Commissioners meet twice a month at 3:00 pm at the Emery County Courthouse at 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale. A schedule of meetings is listed on the Emery County website at http://www.emerycounty.com/
