PRICE– Steve Sheriff, age 65, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, March 21, 2024 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

After a lifetime of Coal Mining and extraordinary adventures, he has departed to the stars. Steve, a transplant to Carbon County, never really was fond of wasting time. Our son, husband, father, brother and grandpa always knew how to get the job done with efficiency and speed. His final launch has an epic countdown.

Steve was born to Wendell and Sharon Hughes Sheriff in Sandy, Utah On August 1st, 1958. He was the only brother of three sisters who adored him and playfully tortured him as he also tortured them. His patience and kindness was reserved for the women in his life.

He found eternal love in the eyes of his wife, Robyn Howard Sheriff. These Soulmates were married on December 19th, 1985. Steve and Robyn’s home was filled with pride, playfulness, parties, people and puppies. The music was loud and the food was phenomenal.

Three humans were placed in Steve’s path at a time when he was single and enjoying a party life.  His soft heart opened and Steve proudly welcomed the promotion to husband and dad. Steve was a playful parent who leaned into his first big roll passionately.

Two big tears always fell from Steve’s gentle brown eyes when he opened his arms to embrace his beloved granddaughter Ali.

Steve’s affinity for flight, and art, and adventure was discovered at a young age. At Brighton High School, he was in the ski club and could be frequently found doing aerials and backflips at Alta. He was on the baseball team and was a full facial haired heart throb. His was the face that launched a thousand rockets. He loved to build and launch rockets and enjoyed flying his stunt kites.

Steve was a master mason, a skill he learned from his dad. He was a coal miner for 30 years and took great care in learning and perfecting the old school ways. His ingenuity was renowned and his abilities exceeded all expectations.

Steve loved exploring, nature, fishing, ATVs, and camping. In recent years, he was most well known to be sitting in his spot, watching sports with one of his many pups in his warm lap, reveling in the soft strokes of his thick working hands.

Steve’s hands cultivated the yearly garden that dreams and salsa are made of. His years of engineering water works and OCD efficiency were displayed in his dazzling harvests.

Steve was an incredible artist and dedicated much his life to creating with his hands. His attention to the details were unsurpassed. He made the hard look easy and he took pride in his accomplishments.

One man’s dash with loyalty, lessons, leisure, life and love will leave a legacy we promise to celebrate and see in the night sky above.
