The Carbon baseball squad was back on the diamond on Tuesday after a five-day layoff. It didn’t take them long to knock the rust off as they made quick work of the Richfield Wildcats 12-2 in five innings.
The Dinos sit at 9-2 this season and hold a 4-0 Region 12 mark.
On Tuesday at Richfield, Carbon started out slow not scoring in the first inning, putting up a single run in the first and then two more in the third and fourth getting the score to 5-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth. Richfield added one more run in the bottom half of the inning making it 5-2, but in the top of the fifth, the Dinos would find another gear.
The inning started innocently enough with Cameron Vasquez getting a lead-off walk. Next batter up was Stockton Kennedy who sent a double to right field, and Deagan Richards who entered the game as a runner for Vasquez would score. Tyrus Madsen stepped into the box next and smacked a fly ball over the centerfield fence for a home run putting the score at 8-2. With two outs and the score at 10-2, Jace Barlow climbed into the batter’s box and after a foul tip and a ball hammered one over the left field wall, driving in Peyton Molinar pushing the score to 12-2. All that was left was for Carbon to close out the Wildcats and end the game moving to 9-2 this season.
Molinar had a pair of hits, three RBIS and also had two runs scored. Madsen collected two hits, two runs scored and also drove in a pair, and Vasquez had two hits, two RBIs and scored a run.
Maddex Willson got the start and took the win on the mound putting in four innings of work surrendering five hits, and a pair of earned runs while striking out five. Jaxon Ingram came in to close out the contest going one and striking out one.
Carbon head back to the diamond on Thursday when Salem Hills comes to Price.
Game time is set for 3:00 p.m..
