Mark M. Tuttle, age 68, of Orangeville, Utah; our husband, dad, “paw,” dear friend, and light of our lives passed away in the early hours of the morning on April 8, 2024 surrounded by his loving family after a short but hard-fought battle with glioblastoma brain cancer.
Mark was born on July 30, 1955 to Bland and Selma Tuttle, and was the youngest of three boys, which obviously made him the favorite according to his brothers. As a child, Mark was rambunctious, energetic, and loved to try new things and push limits while throwing caution to the wind. He was hard working even as a child and loved to build and fix things. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t build or fix, usually because he had broken it himself and would tell us his most famous quote, “you’re not going to believe this!” He was an outstanding farmer, which he inherited from his father. The two worked side by side for many years before his dad’s passing in 2009. After the passing of his father, he worked side by side with his good friend, Karl Justesen. He loved his cows, but his horses were his passion. He started riding as a young child and continued throughout his life. He even taught his childhood horse to rear up like “Trigger” from Roy Rogers. His favorite things were spending time on the mountain herding cows and trail riding with his children, grandchildren, and father-in-law, Dick Jones. He shared his passion for horses with his grandchildren and taught them all to ride.
Because he loved trying new things, he had many hobbies, including certified scuba diver, avid hunter, fly fisherman, camping, golfing, skeet shooting (there wasn’t a clay pigeon that got away), tennis, racquetball, men’s softball, a member of the Emery County Search and Rescue, and scouting. He shared many of these hobbies with his best friend, Leslie Cox. He was very athletic and excelled in football as the quarterback in high school and pitcher on many baseball teams. During family game time, no one ever bet him at cornhole, volleyball, or horseshoes.
Mark was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a firm and unwavering testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He served in many church callings including bishopric, high council, and especially loved serving in the Manti Temple with his wife. He also served as an Orangeville City Council Member, on the Emery County Conservancy District Board, and Cottonwood Creek Irrigation Company.
During his life he worked for Energy West Mining at several local mines before retiring from Deer Creek Mine after 35 years of service. He made many lasting and cherished friendships and was able to work alongside many family members.
Mark married his sweetheart Dickcie Lee Jones on August 14, 1976 and they were later sealed in the Manti Temple on May 19, 1978. Mark and Dickcie enjoyed spending time together in the mountains camping, going for rides, and spending time with their family. Their marriage survived many home improvement projects. Mark may not have loved these projects, but he did them because he loved his wife and they all turned out great! Together they raised three children, Amanda (Kory) Nelson, Trenton (Danielle) Tuttle, and Michael (Dani) Tuttle all of Orangeville. They also have eight grandchildren who affectionately call them “Haw” and “Paw,” Autumn (Jacob) Huntsman, Katie Nelson, Coy Tuttle, Lillee Tuttle, Jesse Tuttle, Megan Nelson, Traxon Tuttle, and Bridger Tuttle. He adored his grandchildren and they loved to tease him, as did everyone.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Dickcie; his children and grandchildren; his brothers, Paul (Charlene) Tuttle of Kaysville, UT and Kevin (Pam) Tuttle of Orangeville, UT; father-in-law, Dick Jones of Orangeville, UT; sister-in-law, Vicki (Jeff) Biggar of Pleasant Grove, UT; brother-in-law, Kim (Sue) Jones of Ferron, UT; as well as many other beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents; Bland and Selma Tuttle; nephew, Trever Tuttle; mother-in-law, Annalee Jones; sister-in-law, Karen Tuttle; brother-in-law, Kirt Jones; and nephew, Jason Jones.
The family would like to thank San Rafael Health and Rehabilitation Center for their loving care of Mark, including his room buddy, Paul Porter. They would like to thank his entire care team at the Huntsman’s Cancer Institute, as well as, many friends, family, and neighbors for their love and support.
