Susan May Mace Scott passed away on May 8, 2024.
She was born on April 1, 1952 to her parents Almie Earl Mace and Francis May Howard in Salt Lake City, Utah. She is survived by her husband Rodney James Scott, and children, Emily Susan Scott Willson, Benjamin James Scott, Christopher James Scott, Kathryn Elizabeth Scott, Rebecca Anne Scott Marchello, Heidi Christine Scott Brackett, and their families. She passed away at age 72 after a long battle with illness with her husband of 51 years by her side. Family was Susan’s joy in life. She lived every day for those she loved.
Susan lived in Holladay until the age of eight then moved to Sandy when their family home was finished. She was surrounded by the love of her family and three younger brothers Lonnie, Michael, and Harold. Although she loved to get dressed up, she was never above catching bugs and frogs with her brothers. She attended Jordan High School where she participated in many clubs and organizations such as theatre, journalism, and the school dance team. There she also met the love of her life, Rodney. After high school, they were married and moved to Logan Utah, where Rodney was attending Utah State University. While in Logan, their first child was born. When Rodney graduated, they moved to Price where Susan gave birth to five more children.
While her children were young, Susan worked as a florist and sold her arts and crafts. Later, she worked as a school bus driver where she made treats and prizes for the kids she drove to school. She loved to decorate her bus for all the holidays.
While she was younger, Susan traveled to various places with her husband including Hawaii (which she and her husband adored), Europe, and several places in the United States. As she got older, they traveled to several states in a camping trailer to visit their children.
Susan loved to be creative and work with her hands. She was a long-time member of a card exchange club. Susan made and sold arts and crafts. She was well known for her beautiful wreaths. She sewed clothes for her children and grandchildren including several wedding dresses for her daughters. She loved to scrapbook and leaves a number of scrapbooks to her children and grandchildren.
Susan’s life was about family and her love for the Gospel. Susan was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and known for her many contributions of service. She served in the primary organizations for children, Young Women’s, and the Relief Society. When she passed away, she was serving as the Relief Society President of the Price Third Ward, a position that she dearly loved. She asked not to be released from even in her poor health condition because it gave her so many opportunities to serve the people of her ward and community. She said that she learned to serve and love from her mother and grandmother who were her great examples.
Susan loved to be surrounded by her family and friends. She served them in every capacity, from caring for the sick and afflicted at church to caring for her six children and 14 grandchildren in whatever they needed. She supported her children and grandchildren in everything they did. Regardless of what they needed, Susan made it her mission to be there and support them. She loved and supported her husband as well. Together, they raised six children, built two houses, weathered a number of tragedies and loss, and stuck by each other’s side through all of it. Susan will be missed dearly and we will remember her for her love and service.
