The Emery County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) had a busy Memorial Day weekend, a fact which is supported by a massive drug bust they had along Interstate 70.

Deputy Egan Smith and his K-9 partner Deputy Dak were able to find large amounts of controlled substances during a vehicle search. Dak was alerted to what turned out to be 59 pounds of marijuana, 13 packages of THC vape cartridges and 19 pounds of a white powder. This white powder is suspected to be either cocaine or fentanyl according to ECSO.

Sheriff Tyson Huntington spoke on the incident saying, ” This seizure was due to old-fashioned police work, nothing special. Even though we have evolved with crime and criminal trends, sometimes old-school tactics are the best.” Huntington continued,” We have a huge drug trafficking corridor with I-70 in our county and we have to take it seriously. Our deputies always have to consider this with every action they take. Seizing these drugs off I-70 affects our area as well as other areas of our country for the better.”

In a post to their Facebook, ECSO stated,” Well you can’t keep a good dog and his handler down … ECSO is grateful for our zealous K-9 unit and the support of Emery County-ites.”
