Lorraine Behling from Scofield took the time to join Castle Country Radio for an over-the-phone interview to talk about Scofield’s upcoming Pleasant Valley Days Celebration coming on July 4, 5 and 6.
Opening our chat, Behling explained what Pleasant Valley Days is,” Pleasant Valley Days is Scofield’s annual 4th of July celebration. We’ve held it for many years and it’s a popular celebration. This year’s theme is “A Salute to our Troops,” and we’re pleased to be honoring our military members past and present, who have sacrificed on behalf of our country.”
Getting things kicked off on Thursday, July 4, a bonus evening of events will take place,” We hope everyone will join us from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for music and dancing with southern rock band The Livid Dead.” Behling said,” I listened to The Livid Dead on their Facebook page and they sound great, so I’m looking forward to it.”
Looking at Friday’s scheduled events, Behling spoke with some excitement saying,” No need to cook dinner Friday, because we have Cow Camp Catering coming with a Dutch oven lasagna dinner with homemade breadsticks and cheesecake, that starts at 5 p.m.” Behling continued,” All this is followed by another night of dancing and music with the Livid Dead.”
Saturday is jam-packed with events, starting as early as 6:30 a.m., “The perfect way to start your day is with our 5k run/walk. Then after you can come to have a delicious Cow Camp Catering Breakfast.
Following this on Saturday, a parade will be held at 11 a.m., with Behling expressing her anticipation,” I’ve been getting a lot of calls and emails about the parade, so I’m excited to see all the entries.”
Other Events on Saturday include a mine disaster exhibit in the old school house, a silent auction and drawing winners being announced and rounding out the event is a performance from The Shane Lee Band and a fireworks display.
We asked Behling what the planning process was like for the event, and she responded,” You know it always takes quite a bit of planning because this is a fairly full schedule. We do have a lot of great volunteers who help with things. It’s nice when everyone steps up and is willing to help take pieces of this event to make it easier. ”
Rounding out our conversation, Behling left the listeners with this message,” We want people to know Scofield Town enjoys hosting Pleasant Valley Days, and we hope everyone comes out and enjoys the holiday with us.”
Pleasant Valley Days is set for Thursday, July 4, Friday, July 5 and Saturday, July 6. A full schedule of events can be found on the Pleasant Valley Days website here.
