Ursula Beckman, our beloved Mom, “Omi” passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at home surrounded by her loved ones at the age of 88. Omi was born in Essen, Germany, November 2, 1935. She lived her “normal childhood” in the country after enduring constant WWII bombings as a small child.

She married Herman Beckman October 19, 1957 in Germany. After Omi turned 21, she journeyed to the United States to join her husband at Fort Riley, Kansas where he was stationed in the US Army. After the Army, they moved west to California where they began a family, having two boys, Roger and Marty. Wanting to leave the hustle and bustle of southern California, they began a new adventure in Price, Utah where they purchased a 20-acre farm and started raising chickens, pigs, milk cows, goats, geese, rabbits and even earth worms.

She began work at the Cosmetology dept at CEU and later USU Eastern where she worked many, many, many years. She loved meeting and making new friends with all the new students and teachers that went through that program throughout the years. She discovered that she was not the only German immigrant living in Carbon County and that there were many more that found their way here. That was when the infamous “German Club” was invented and lifelong friendships and support were established through these special monthly gatherings. She enjoyed being with her family, the outdoors, was an avid gardener and seamstress, making many clothes for the family and fixing every rip or tear in any item so they could be used again.

She was an inspiration and loved by all that knew her. Her loving caring demeanor and willingness to always be there to help, calm, relieve and comfort any problems that anyone faced. Her smile and laughter and tenderness will be missed dearly.

She is survived by her two sons: Roger (Ellen), San Diego, CA, Marty (Teresa) Helper, Utah. Grandkids: Zac (Sydney) Beckman, Stefan Beckman, Lauren Beckman, Tyler (Paula) Beckman, Ryan (Jessica) Olsen and Brandon Olsen and seven great grandkids.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Gustaf and Elsa Zimmer and husband, Herman Beckman.

Memorial service, Tuesday, July 23, 2024, 11:00 a.m., Ascension St. Matthew’s Church, 522 Homestead Blvd. in Price where the family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
