016-1

The Lady Spartans soccer squad got things started on the road on Tuesday in Fillmore when they faced Millard. The Eagles jumped out in the first half scoring five goals and kept the pedal down allowing just one goal and taking the win 7-1.

Emery opened up the season under first-time coach Pennie Stewart, after a summer of open fields, and a trip to the Utah Summer Games as they put the team together and worked on team building.

Millard finished last season 10-5 falling in the quarterfinals to runner-up St. Joesph, and were looking to pick up where they left off last season. In the first half, they were able to put five goals in the back of the net and held the Lady Spartan’s Megan Stilson to the only goal of the contest for Emery.

In the second half, the Eagles were able to find the back of the net twice in the second half, holding Emery scoreless and taking the 7-1 win.

Three Lady Eagles, Maggie Stephens, Jenise Chlarson, and Carley Braman each scored two goals a piece, and Reese Kesler added another.

Megan Stilson put the only goal on the board for Emery.

The Lady Spartans head back to the field next Wednesday, August 14 when they play in their home opener against South Summit.

Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. in Castle Dale.
