The fall season is a busy time for the United Way of Eastern Utah. Whether it be Soles 2 Souls, which provides school kids with new shoes, or the Angel Tree, which provides gifts for children, the elderly and disabled folks in their service area. But coming up soon for the organization is their Day of Caring on Saturday, Sept. 7, which aims to improve the lives of residents of the Castle Country through service.
Pam Boyd, the executive director for the United Way of Eastern Utah joined Castle Country Radio to talk about the upcoming event, as well as recapping previous endeavors of the organization.
First, Boyd discussed the recent Soles 2 Souls event which proved to be a massive success,” It was a great day, we handed out 352 pairs of shoes so that’s a good number. Everybody was, as always, wonderful. It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to help them out this way.”
After this, Boyd explained what the purpose of the Day of Caring is,” Day of Caring is a communitywide volunteer event and, you know, its United Way’s mission is to affect change by harnessing the caring power of the community. And you can’t come up with a better example of that, than the Day of Caring.” Boyd continued,” I always say it’s like ants on a cupcake, a bunch of people, a bunch of projects and we get them done and it is an amazing morning.”
A majority of coverage is directed toward the public works projects that the Day of Caring brings, but the event also helps to serve the community in a more personal way,” we also send a lot of crews out to homes where maybe the homeowner is elderly and it’s just gotten to be too much for them. Or perhaps they’ve had some physical setbacks, some illness, there’s a lot of reasons why projects in your home get away from you. And, you know, that’s what this day is there for, it’s to go and help out our neighbors.”
If you need help, you can reach out to Boyd directly at 435-637-8911 or by email at liveunited@uweu.org.
Closing out our conversation, Boyd left us with a simple message,” Mark Saturday, Sept. 7 in your calendar. We’re going to make these communities a little bit better place to live.”
