The Lady Spartans began defense of their State Championship on Tuesday in Monroe against South Sevier. Emery came out grabbing a win in the first set but it was all Rams after that as they handed the Lady Spartans a 3-1 loss.

Emery earned the State Championship on October 26 with a 3-2 win over Morgan, a lot has changed since then. Karl Jensen has taken over the reins for head coach Ferd Allred, plus some returners from last year are ready to “Run it back”.

The Lady Spartans came out in the opening set to take a 26-24 win, going up 1-0,  but the next couple of sets while close, 25-22, 25-20 went to South Sevier with the fourth and final set going to the Rams 25-7.

Emery returns on the floor on Wednesday when they welcome the Duchesne Eagles to the Spartan Center for their home opener. Duchesne ended last season 11-9 overall with a 4-6 record in Region 15 in the 2A classification. Emery won 3-0 on the Eagles’ home floor in their only meeting last year.

After that, the Lady Spartans head to Nephi on Friday for the Juab Tournament that will end on Saturday.

Game time for the match with Duchesne is set for 6:30 p.m..
