
The Pinnacle Panther baseball team got back on the diamond on Wednesday when Panguitch came to Price. The Bobcats wasted no time getting to work putting up eight runs in the first inning, and used big third and fourth innings to hand the Panthers their eighth loss this season 31-3.
The Panthers had suffered a loss to Valley last Friday in a game where they were able to collect three hits but couldn’t make any of them count as they lost 11-0.
On Wednesday, Panguitch, who was last season’s No. 1 overall seed at the State Championships, and holds a 16-1 overall record, got started early putting eight runs on the board in the top of the first, then held Pinnacle scoreless in the bottom of the first. The Bobcats added another in the top of the second to put the score at 9-0 heading into the bottom of the inning. Pinnacle put the first batter on base as Bryson Shumway would earn a walk. Riley Davis was the next batter up and hit a double to left which would bring around Shumway to score, later in the inning with two outs Davis would score to put another run on the board, 9-2.
In the third, Panguitch scored 10 runs and headed into the fourth, had increased their lead to 19-2 after holding the Panthers off the board. The fourth was another huge inning for the Bobcats as they poured 12 more runs onto Pinnacle with four of those runs coming from a grand slam home run, in the bottom of the inning Shumway would score on a passed ball to put the score at 31-3 as Panguitch left town with the win.
Carlos Alcon, Brody Howell, Riley Davis, and Shumway each earned one hit in the contest with Shumway scoring twice and Davis registering a run and an RBI.
On the mound for the Panthers Joey Howell got the start going 1.2 innings with nine hits, nine runs, eight earned, and struck out a pair of batters. Brody Howell had an inning’s work with six hits, nine earned, and striking out one. Alcon closed out the contest surrendering 12 hits and 13 earned runs.
Pinnacle will jump back into their schedule on Friday when they travel to face Piute.
