After a season that started two months ago, on Wednesday morning the Utah High School Activities Association set out the parameters for the second season, the State Championships. Using calculations that were compiled after every game this season, the Carbon Lady Dinos ended their 2024 campaign in the No.5 spot, with the Lady Spartans of Emery landing at No. 18.

Carbon finished the regular season 11-5 overall going 9-5 in Region 12 play. Emery ended the season at 0-17 overall and 0-14 in the region.

Carbon has been led this season by freshman Mailia Smith who not only led all classifications in goals scored with 32 but came out on top in total points with 79. Junior Bailey Jonhson ended the regular season tied for first with  Desert Hills’ Kamri Yergensen with 21 assists, she also ended the regular season in the top ten in total points with 53.

The Lady Dinos will receive a first-round bye meaning they won’t take to the field until Tuesday, when they welcome in the No. 12 North Sanpete Hawks. These two teams went head-to-head twice this season with the Lady Dinos coming out on top in both contests. A win moves Carbon into the second round where they would face the winner of No. 4 Morgan and No. 13 Juab.

Emery is coming off back-to-back winless seasons and has been showing signs of promise lately with an offensive show against North Sanpete taking the 7-5 loss, the Lady Spartans are looking for a positive to end the season.

They will face No.15 Providence Hall at their home field in Herriman on Saturday. The Patriots will enter the game at 3-13 overall and 2-4 in region play. Since they reside in Region 14 the two teams have never faced each other but they do have a common opponent in South Summit. In August, Emery welcomed them to Castle Dale and gave them all they could handle with the Wildcats escaping with a 5-4 win. Providence Hall traveled to Kamas and earned a 3-1 victory. A win in this contest would move Emery to the next round where they would face a team that they are very familiar with the Manti Templars.

Saturday’s game for the Lady Spartans is set for 1 p.m. in Herriman.

The Lady Dinos will face North Sanpete on the soccer field at Carbon High at 4:00 p.m..
