For Deanna Fulcher, it all started with a search for answers. “ I was in bed most of the day. I’d get my kids off to school and go back to bed, and I couldn’t get out. I tried to go to several different doctors, and then I started getting vertigo. So, I tried to go to different doctors to help me. And I couldn’t find the answers that I needed.”
This search led Fulcher to find functional medicine. Months turned into years of studying and eventually, Fulcher worked her way up to becoming an advanced practice registered nurse and eventually establishing Functional Health Solutions.
On Wednesday, Oct. 23, FHS entered the Carbon Corridor, opening a practice at 90 West, 100 North. This opening was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony courtesy of the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce.
At this ribbon cutting, Fulcher explained the goal of the clinic,” I am mostly going to be instilling hope for reversing Type 2 diabetes. That’s my big push” Fulcher also discussed some of the other issues FHS aims to tackle,” If your gut is off, your hormones, thyroid, all kinds of things like that, and we can help with traditional medicine or alternative stuff like herbs, supplements, peptides and weight loss.”
In combination with traditional medicine. Fulcher and FHS also employ functional medicine,” functional medicine tries to get to the root cause and reverse things. I’ve been a nurse since 1996, and I had health issues that I overcame through alternative means and I wanted to start teaching that to other people.”
Speaking to Castle Country Radio, Fulcher explained what some of these alternative means entail,” I do a lot of nutritional teaching on how people change their diet. I spend a lot of time with patients rather than just coming in for 10 minutes and making sure that they’re heard and that they get their whole story out.”
Speaking on what she was most excited about with the clinic, Fulcher reiterated her devotion to combating Type 2 Diabetes,” I’m focusing on reversing type two diabetes and just giving hope to people that they’re not stuck with this for the rest of their life.”
