The Emery Spartans were back at it on Wednesday when they welcomed the Union Cougars to town. Union took wins in both divisions with the boys’ team handing Emery a 702 to 394 loss and the Lady Spartans falling  623-435.

Even with the loss, there was plenty to talk about on the boy’s side of the pool. Emery earned first-place finishes in the 200 medley relay with the team of Thomas Black, Parker Jensen, Reve Mason, and Adam Olsen turning in a time of 1:50.89. In the 200 free relay Black, Jensen, Olsen, and Jacob Morris turned in a time of 1:41.80.

In other relays, the Spartans earned top-five finishes as well. The second team in the 200 medley with Brekker Bunnell, Devon Farley, Cody Howard, and Jaxon Durant swam to a third-place finish and a third team of Tyson Gardner, Isaak Potter, Haylen Willis, and Hyrum Russell finished in fifth. A second team swam to a fifth-place finish in the 200 free with Kamron Hanson, Devon Farley, Reese Olsen, and Tyson Gardner. Emery also had two teams compete in the 400 free with Morris, Bunnell, Durant, and Mason finishing in third, and the team consisting of Potter, Hanson, Russell, and Howard taking fourth.

Jensen had a day earning a first-place finish in the 50 free turning in a time of 24.44, and then a second-place finish in the 500 free. Black earned a second-place finish in the 50 free with his time of 25.89 and a third-place in the 100 free.

Mason earned two top-five finishes with a third in the 500 free and a fifth in the 200 free. Adam Olsen earned thor in the 200 individual medley. Russell took fourth in the 100-yard backstroke, Durant finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke, and Morris swam to a fifth-place finish in the 50 free.

For the Lady Spartans, Annie Johansen earned a first-place finish in the 200 free turning in a time of 2:30.67, she also took third in the 100 free. In the 50 free, three Spartans earned top-five finishes with Kaila Martineau turned in at a time of 28.97, Emma Grimm was right behind in second, Brooklyn O’Neil finished third and Avey Beagley took fifth. O’Neil also earned a second-place finish in the 100 fly just ahead of Grimm who came in third. Hallie Frandsen claimed a third-place finish in the 100 back, Laycee Winn a fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke, and Illyria Mason went fifth in the 200 free. 

Just like the boys, the Lady Spartans had multiple relay teams. In the 200 free Johansen, Grimm, O’Neil, and Mason took a second-place finish while the second team of Sydni Lake, Maggie Jeffs, Abbie Moulton, and Ashley Mesler finished in fourth. In the 200 medley Mason, O’Neil, Grimm, and Johansen swam to third, and the Emery team of Bealey, Winn, Frandsen, and Hadley Meccarielloended in fourth. Emery also had a pair of teams in the 400. Frandsen, Meccariello, Mesler, and Beagley finished in third, and Lily White, Alivia Daley, Lake, and Beagley took fourth. 

The Spartans jump back into the pool on Friday when they travel to Richfield to take on the Wildcats.
