TJ Lacock led a brilliant defensive performance as the Emery Spartans won their second straight region contest as they defeated South Sevier 1-0 Tuesday afternoon in Monroe.
Playing to a scoreless tie at the end of the first half, Ethan Winter scored the go-ahead goal in the second to secure the win for the Spartans. Lacock was brilliant at goalie, recording his first shutout of the season.
Tuesday's win improves Emery to 4-2 overall on the season, but more importantly 2-2 in the 2A Central. The Spartans earned their first region victory last Thursday as they shocked the Manti Templars 4-3 in overtime.
Now entering spring break the Spartans will have something to smile about during the lengthy seven day break. Returning to the field on Tuesday, March 29, Emery will go toe-to-toe with Gunnison, the lone unbeaten team in the Central division.
