The Carbon Lady Dinos Volleyball Squad competed in day two of the 3A State Championship Tournament. Going 2-0 in both matches was enough to give the Dinos a fifth place finish in the 3A Classification.

The Dinos entered the tournament on a seven match winning streak and entered with the #7 seed. On day one they faced Grantsville in the their first contest and were taken to five sets eventually coming out on top 3-2. The second match of the day was with the #2 seeded Morgan Trojans. The Trojans proved to be too much for Carbon as they were defeated in straight sets 3-0. After the Morgan loss the Dinos would face day two knowing that they could finish no better than fifth place.

On the second day the Dinos would open up play against the South Summit Wildcats. The Wildcats entered at 19-13 overall  and 8-2 in region play and an overall #6 seed. Carbon would come out in the first two sets ready to play winning both 25-21 and 25-18. The third set would belong to South Summit 25-22 and Carbon would then take the fourth set and put them away 25-14.

Carbon wouldn’t have long to rest as they then turned right around and had to take on Grand (20-12 and 5-5) as the # 5 seed. Carbon knows Grand very well as they are both from Region 12 and have faced each other twice already in the regular season. Back on September 24 the Red Devils would beat Carbon 3-0. On October 16 in Price on Senior night Carbon would return the favor winning by the same margin.

Carbon would take the first set 25-17, Grand would come right back and take the second set 25-21. The Dinos would take the final two sets 25-20 and 20-16 putting Grand away and securing fifth place in the 3A State Championship Tournament.

With six seniors on this years team: Diana Morley, Cora Lamborn, Abbie Saccomanno, Victoria Nelson, Sophie Noyes and Gracie Salas, Carbon will lose veteran leadership but the future looks bright with a stable of underclassmen ready to take over for the 2020 season.
