This week’s Carbon School District weekly update shines a light on Castle Heights Elementary. The school’s archery team just returned from the state tournament where they competed and did very well.

“So, I took two teams, my second team took third place in the state with a score of just over 2,400 points and then my team one took first for the third year in a row and they scored 3,013,” said Archery Advisor, Kyle Hansen. There was a total of 15 schools that competed in the state tournament.

There were individual competitors that were recognized at the tournament. “One of the things that they do is they give awards for the top three boys and the top three girls in the age division and at Castle Heights, we brought home all six of those,” stated Hansen. Those top students were given awards and were a part of the school’s number one team.

The school’s teams have one more competition that could rank them nationally. “So now in April, it’s the 25th of April if I remember correctly, we’ll be headed back to Salt Lake and if they shoot well, we should come home ranked in the top three in the western U.S.,” said Hansen. This would be a great accomplishment for the teams as well as for the school and the community.

Other schools in the area also did really well at the state tournament as Hansen explains, “Creekview was a first-year program and they snuck in right between my two teams at second place. Sally Mauro Elementary went as well, they came in at fourth. Mont Harmon took first in the Middle School Division; Helper took third and Carbon High as a first-year program came in at second.” Overall, all of the participating schools did remarkably well for a program that has just been newly established in the last few years.
