There is no doubt that Wayne Clausing and Sutherlands has been a huge asset to Carbon and Emery counties. Sutherlands has been able to help individuals with the simplest of home and garden improvements, to the most complex of building for any contractors. No matter the job or the products needed, he has made sure that his customers are treated well so they will come back.

Clausing started with Sutherlands back in 1986 as a Stock Boy stocking shelves in the lawn and garden department. Since then a lot of things have change from the small neighborhood hardware lumber yard. “It’s much different with computers; it’s made it easier and harder,” said Clausing.

Then in 2005 Clausing was offered his own store here in Price which opened up in March of the same year. “I was very honored because now I was the man, but was also scared I didn’t want to fail and disappoint the family I work for. The Sutherland family is one of the most amazing families that I have ever known,” said Clausing. The growth of his store, his devoted employees and of course his amazing customers has been what has made his store thrive.

The move to Price has given him the opportunity to pay it forward to volunteer. He is a member of the Carbon County Chamber, served as chamber president in 2010, currently is the United Way of Eastern Utah President.  “My biggest moment was winning the Big Business of the Year award from the Chamber in 2008,” said Clausing. He’s just begun his fifth year as councilman for Price City and one day looks to be Mayor of Price City.

With thirty years under his belt with Sutherlands, what is Clausing’s next move? “To maintain sales, grow and help keep my customer base, because without customers you have no business,” said Clausing.

Be sure to stop in to Sutherlands and congratulate Clausing on a job well done that’s if you can find him through the numerous decorations his employees left in his office.
