Locked in a tight game the Carbon Lady Dinos scored nine runs in the top of the fifth inning to explode past the Emery Lady Spartans 16-4 in the season opener Wednesday afternoon in Castle Dale.

Carbon jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and never looked back despite multiple Emery runs that kept the game close. The Lady Dinos managed to score runs in four of the five innings, including a four run stretch in the third inning.

McKenna Sorenson was awarded the win on the mound for Carbon in the season opener. Sorenson received plenty of run support, including a five RBI from Kelsey Sorenson. Taylor Passarella also recorded an RBI with a triple.

Bailey Huggard was charged with the loss from the hill for Emery, giving up seven runs in four solid innings. The Lady Spartans used two pitchers in a relief effort before Carbon put the game away in the fifth frame.

Both teams will return to the diamond in relatively quick fashion. The Lady Dinos will look for their second consecutive victory as they travel on the road to meet Pine View Thursday afternoon at 4:00 pm. Following Thursday's contest the Lady Dinos will travel to St. George for the spring warm up on Friday and Saturday.

Emery will take Thursday off before traveling to Summit Academy Friday in a non-region tilt. Friday will mark the final non-region contest before the Lady Spartans open up league play on Tuesday against Grand on the road.
