The Relay for Life event has a new venue and new date this year. The event will be held on Saturday, June 25 with a Survivor Breakfast at 9:00 am and the actually walk will begin at 10:00 am till 12:00 am Sunday, June 26 at the Carbon High School track.

The Relay For Life event is where the teams take turns walking or running around a track and the event is up to 24 hours long, and because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have at least one participant on the track at all times. There is still plenty of time to sign up a team if a civic group, business and/or family would like to be a part of this life changing event. Ruther Metzger, one of the event organizers said, “You can sign up a team by either giving me a call 650-4552 or just go online to Relay for Life, find an event, our event is Carbon County and it will walk you through signing up your team.”

Many of the teams have been busy hosting various fundraising events around the area. Metzger gave more details, “We have some ongoing events, Community Nursing is selling signs in various sizes and prices; The Sun Advocate is offering subscriptions and renewals and a portion donated to Relay; Cache Valley Bank is having Bake Sales every Friday now through the 24th of June and most team have luminary bags that are for sale.”  The cost for luminary bags will be either $5.00 each or 3 for $10.00, they will be made available for purchase on the day of the event.

June is going to be a busy, busy month for all of the teams to host last minute fundraisers, Metzger explained, “We have a couple of fundraisers coming up, June 4 there’s a Horseshoe Tournament put on by Community Nursing; the Miners Trading Post is doing a Bake sale on June 8; on Friday and Saturday, June 18 and 19 there’s an Archery Tournament at the North Springs Shooting Range.” Individuals interested in either the Horseshoe Tournament or Archery Tournament are asked to call Community Nursing at 613-8887.

All of the proceeds raised from the various fundraisers will help the American Cancer Society with research, support and programs. “Our goal for the county is $31,500, we’re about half way there, so supporting these fundraisers will help us get to our goal,” stated Metzger. There will also be various activities/booths during the day of the event to help reach this goal.

The Relay For Life Committee is still looking for Survivors to be a part of the event and invite them to register as soon as possible by calling Jennifer at 299-9532.
