Koby Butler scored a game best 26 points and collected 15 rebounds as the Emery Spartans easily defeated the Delta Rabbits 84-53 Wednesday evening at the Spartan Center in Castle Dale.
Moving their unbeaten record 6-0 on the young season, the Spartans methodically pulled away from the Rabbits in the first half and never looked back. The loss dips Delta to 2-3, giving them consecutive losses for the first time this season.
Falling in an early 4-0 hole the Spartans finished the opening quarter on an 18-2 run. The offense continued to roll as they scored 20 or more in each of the final three quarters to secure their fourth double-digit win in six games.
Zac Jorgensen contributed on both sides of the court by scoring 17 points and accumulating five steals. Kolton Butler finished with 14 points and Bowdie Jacobson scored 10. The starting five spent the majority of the fourth quarter on the bench due to the large advantage.
Trevor Burton posted a team best 11 points for the Rabbits in the losing effort. Freshman Derek Smith contributed 10 from a starting role and Daycen Fowles scored nine.
Wednesday’s win is the first of three games for the Spartans heading into the weekend. The team will return to the court on Friday as they travel to meet 3A North Sanpete. The following day Emery will play host to Carbon in the first of two match-ups.
