The Emery Spartans improved to 3-1 in region play as they completed the season-series sweep of the Monticello Buckaroos with a 7-0 victory Friday afternoon in Castle Dale.
Offensive production was not a problem for the Spartans as they tallied 10 hits compared to just three for Monticello. The two teams met earlier in the week, and played to a similar finish as Emery grabbed a 17-0 win.
Jordan Baletka finished 2-2 at the plate recording a triple, single, two walks and one RBI. Easton Gordon accumulated two hits in four at bats to notch a game best two RBI, and Kyson Stilson ended 3-3 with two doubles and a triple.
Zac Jorgensen earned the win on the mound striking out eight, and allowing just one hit in four innings of work. Gordon finished off the final three frames giving up two hits and recording four strikeouts.
With Friday’s win the Spartans remain tied with the Grand Red Devils in the loss column for second place in the 2A East. Gunnison remains at the top of the standings still unbeaten at 4-0.
