Unable to overcome an early deficit the Emery Lady Spartans suffered a 5-1 setback at the hands of the North Sevier Wolves Friday afternoon in Salina.

Friday’s region tilt was the second meeting in three days between the two teams. Emery won the first on Tuesday 7-1, giving them a slight edge for third place in the division standings. Friday’s win for North Sevier moves them in a tie with Emery for third as both teams are now .500.

Carlie Robinson scored the lone run for Emery, while also registering two of the team’s four hits. AdriAnne Childs logged the team’s other two hits, all of which were singles. The Lady Spartans were unable to take advantage of four North Sevier errors throughout the game.

Bailey Huggard was hit with the loss from the mound despite not allowing a single earned run in a complete game effort. Huggard struck out eight batters and allowed just five hits. Defensively Emery committed five errors throughout the game.

With only three league games remaining on the schedule, the Lady Spartans will continue the season Tuesday as travel to meet Gunnison. The two teams will meet again on Friday in Castle Dale. Gunnison is currently at the top of the 2A East standings with an unbeaten record.
