This time of year, is full of various hunts for outdoor enthusiasts and the Division of Wildlife Resources is looking at a successful year for hunters of all ages.
“This is by far the busiest season of the year, so right now we several hunting seasons that are currently open,” said Conservation Outreach Manager, Morgan Jacobsen. “We have chukar partridge, dusky ruffed grouse and greater sage-grouse, all three of those up and game seasons are open.” Also, currently taking place is the general muzzleloader deer hunt that began on September 27 and will run till October 5.
The most popular of big game hunts is quickly approaching this month. “October 7 through the 19, we’ve got our rifle spike and any bull elk. We also have our general season rifle deer hunt October 21 through October 29 and later on in November we have muzzleloader elk,” said Jacobsen. The dates for muzzleloader elk will take place November 1 through the 19.
Other hunts to remember is the turkey hunt in southeast5ern region of the state from November 1 through January 14. Another great bird hunt is the general pheasant shoot taking place November 14 through December 3.
Recently, Utah has offered many “slam” opportunities for outdoorsman to help the DWR in learning about habitats, identify the different species of fish and game. There is a variety of “slams” that are offered, cutthroat, waterfowl, turkey, ring neck pheasants and cotton tail/jack rabbits, to name a few. There is a small registration fee associated with the slams and the money assists in habitat conservation projects.
