The Carbon Dinos earned their first victory of the young basketball season in a lopsided 55-26 contest with Palisade High School Thursday afternoon in Grand Junction, Colo.

Jumping out to an early 18-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, Carbon controlled the majority of the game. The Dinos put the contest out of reach by outscoring Palisade 20-2 in the final eight minutes.

Collin Lewis led a balanced Dinos attack with 12 points, while Ryan Gagon chipped in with 11. Jordan Vasquez finished with eight points, six of which came from deep. Kaleb Nelson contributed six, and both Derek Hillam and Ryker Smith scored five.

Thursday’s contest was the first of three games Carbon will play in as many days in Grand Junction. Tournament action will continue Friday as the Dinos go toe-to-toe with Cortez. The final game of the weekend will take place Saturday against the host school Grand Junction.
