Emery County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Utah Highway Patrol and all first responders who were dispatched to a fatal bus crash on I-70 in Emery County on Sunday night.

The bus was traveling westbound from Green River to Las Vegas when it went off the side of the road into a steep wash. A 13-year old girl was killed in the crash, and other passengers and the driver suffered injuries requiring medical transport.

First responders included ambulances from Green River, Emery, Ferron, Orangeville, Castle Dale, Huntington and Richfield, as well as medical helicopters from Classic Air in Moab and Vernal, and Mountain Star from Payson. The bus driver and two passengers were transported by air to hospitals in Grand Junction and Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo. Ground ambulances transported patients to hospitals in Richfield and Price. Fire departments responding were Emery, Ferron and Orangeville.

An accident of this magnitude can easily overwhelm local resources and ECSO recognizes and thanks all first responders for the roles they played in helping the victims of this terrible accident.
