Emery County Sheriff Office Deputy Matthew Salas graduated from the Department of Public Safety Utah Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Law Enforcement Academy on May 4, 2018.

Deputy Salas was hired as a civilian dispatcher in June 2016, graduated from Corrections Academy in December 2016 and has been working as a jailer since that time. He is also a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. His years in the US Marine Corp included a seven-month tour in Afghanistan shortly after his first child was born.

POST Academy was a nine-week course held in Sandy that took time away from his wife, Chelsea and three beautiful daughters. Deputy Salas realizes the burden this put on his young family and expresses his appreciation to his wife for juggling all the household responsibilities, along with those family members and friends that supported her and his girls during his absence. Deputy Salas looks forward to serving the citizens of Emery County as a law enforcement officer. Community members who run into Deputy Salas should congratulate him on his special achievement.
