It’s official, the local area is in full swing with various summer activities and Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood wanted to take the time on his weekly update to quickly remind folks on some simple summer tips to keep everyone safe.

“With summer comes challenges for our team. We’re out working areas for traffic as always but we expand our area to Scofield and Nine Mile because you get a lot of traffic in those areas so expect to see down there,” said Wood. Community members will see deputies throughout the summer attending various community events. It’s important for them to be visible in the community and get to know their residents they are serving. Personal interaction between the deputies and the public is a great way to build trust, so take some time when you see them and say hello and introduce yourself.

Back in February of this year, Sheriff Wood received concerns from residents in the Westwood area about drivers traveling too fast throughout some of the neighborhoods. The Sheriff along with Commissioner Casey Hopes and Road Shop Supervisor, Daniel Campbell inspected and observed some troubled areas which lead to some adjustments being made to the speed limit by installing new traffic signs. “I’ve been getting a lot of calls about speeders in Westwood, we had the issue with the speed limit there and we got that resolved but we want people to honor the 25 miles per hour speed limit,” stated Wood. Deputies will beef up patrol in that area plus in Carbonville, Spring Glen and Kenilworth. Drivers are reminded that children are out of school and enjoying activities outside so please remember to travel with a watchful eye.
